Soroptimist International of Gig Harbor (SIGH) was chartered in 2007 and is one of the youngest Soroptimist clubs in the Puget Sound area. SIGH is part of a global volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
Through our fundraising efforts, we have been able to provide funding to various community organizations. Here are some of the projects that help the lives of women and girls in the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula communities:
The Soup Ladies: warming the world, one bowl at a time...
Who do first responders call when they need help?—The Soup Ladies!
Please join Soroptimist International of Gig Harbor on Thursday, February 23rd, 2017, when we will hear from The Soup Ladies founder, Ginger Passarelli, as she shares some of her experiences and challenges in providing fresh, home cooked meals to the brave men and women serving as first responders in times of emergencies and disasters.
Passarelli was inspired to establish the organization during her experience volunteering in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Funded solely by individual donations and the volunteers themselves, teams of Soup Ladies traveled to New York after Hurricane Sandy and to Oklahoma in the wake of devastating tornados. Other locations where the Soup Ladies have answered the call include Louisiana, Missouri and Texas. Closer to home, Ginger and her team of volunteers fed responders after the Oso Mudslide and fire crews fighting the Okanogan Complex Fire.
The meeting will be held at Harbor Place Retirement Center at Cottesmore, 2909 14th Ave NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98335, and begins at 5:00 p.m. Visitors are welcome at our meetings. If you would like to contact us for more information, please go to our contact page.
